San Jose National High School is a public secondary school offering both JHS and SHS curriculum located strategically at Barangay San Jose, Malilipot, Albay. It is the largest secondary school in Malilipot District with a total land area of 20,000 sqm. It has 30 buildings (18 DepEd Funded Buildings, 3 House of Representatives Funded, 3 LGU Funded, 3 Private Sector Funded, and 3 Foreign Funded), 36 classrooms for JHS, 21 classrooms for Senior High School, 8 Workshop Areas/Laboratories, 10 faculty rooms and 4 offices (Office of the Principal, Office of the OIC- ASP II, Guidance Office, Accounting Office). The school is composed of 67 teachers for JHS, 30 teachers for SHS, 4 Head Teachers, 1 School Head, and 14 Non-Teaching Personnel (including Guidance Counselor, Registrar, Administrative Officer, Accounting and Administrative Staff, Watchmen, and Utility Workers).
As a public secondary school, it offers free basic education for Grade 7 to Grade 12. There are two tracks offered in SHS namely Academic Track and Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) Track. Under Academic Track, there are four strands offered including General Academic Strand (GAS), Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Strand, Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) Strand, and Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) Strand. For TVL, the school offers: Industrial Arts (IA) – Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) NCII and Motorcycle and Small Engine Servicing (MSES) NCII; Home Economics (HE) - Bread and Pastry Production (BPP) NCII, Food and Beverage Servicing (FBS) NCII, and Cookery NCII; and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) - Computer Systems Servicing (CSS) NCII. These offerings are aligned to the employment opportunities in its baranggay, nearby towns, and cities.
Its catchment areas include the Barangays of Calbayog, San Roque, San Jose, and Binitayan. These also cover other nearby baranggays of Malilipot (San Francisco, and San Isidro), Bacacay (Sogod, Panarayon, and Hindi), and Sto. Domingo (San Fernando, Fidel Surtida, and San Andres).
Barangay San Jose is composed of five zones, each managed by designated Barangay Kagawad under the supervision of Punong Barangay Evelyn B. Volante. It has an existing Day Care Center, elementary school, community college, a health center, and a Parish Church. Most of its residents are engaged in handicraft weaving, farming, and fishing. There are also vendors, bakers, drivers, professionals, owners of business establishments and OFWs. This barangay has establishments that provide employment to many residents.
As to accessibility, San Jose National High School is 21 kilometers away from the Albay provincial Capitol, Legazpi City using bus, modern and traditional jeepney, UV express, tricycles and motorcycles as modes of transportation.
The school has a strong support system both from internal and external stakeholders which include the School Parents Teachers Association (SPTA), active Alumni Association, supportive Local Government Unit (LGU) and Non- Government Organizations. The barangay council for instance, aids the learners and their families as well as the school through its programs like child protection, mental health and psychosocial support and livelihood program. On the other hand, the SPTA and Alumni Association provide aids to address the concerns and challenges our learners are facing. These school partners extend their utmost support in realizing the school’s programs, projects and activities (PPAs) toward the prime goal that is to serve the best quality of basic education in producing competitive individuals and good citizens of the country.
The school faces concerns like natural calamities such as typhoons and volcanic eruptions. These threats have an impact on the delivery of instructions. SJNHS addresses these threats through the plans and activities spearheaded by the School Disaster Risk and Management (SDRRM) through collaboration with other government agencies.
In the event of suspension of classes due to natural calamities and other unavoidable circumstances, the school automatically implement blended learning delivery modalities as stipulated in DepEd Oder No. 22, s. 2023 entitled Implementing Guidelines on the School Calendar and Activities for the School Year 2023-2024.
